Workshop
A Workshop raises the city's production income.
What it does
A Workshop pays twice. The first payment is the income itself. The second matters more: a city draws at most as much as it produces from the pool each turn (The production queue), so a Workshop also raises that city's draw cap.
The practical consequence: a city with a Workshop does not merely produce more, it finishes the same item in fewer turns.
Production income is scaled by the population multiplier, so a Workshop is worth more in a large city than in a small one.
When to build it
- In cities that have grown: the multiplier rises with every population step, so the same Workshop does more work in a large city (Economy).
- In the city that will build a Siege or an Monument: raising the draw cap is the only way to get an expensive item out of a single city through production. The other road is gold rather than production — a rush is not subject to the cap (Market).
