Wisdom
Wisdom belongs to none of the tree's branches: it has no branch, no tier and no prerequisite. It can be bought at any point in the match, whenever your science points allow, and again and again — unlike the other nodes in the tree, it is not learned once and closed.
Cost and reward
The first purchase costs 17 science points, equal to the base cost of the tree's most expensive tier (the known-node brake is not added to it). After each completion the cost rises by 10 points, and that increase never goes back down. Because research is bought instantly, the cost is computed from the counter at the moment of purchase: if you buy Wisdom twice in a row, the second pays the cost already raised by the completion of the first.
Each completion grants a one-time 10 gold. The reward is gold, not points; the gold is written to your purse and you spend it as you like. Gold cannot buy science points. Wisdom does not count toward your known nodes, and it unlocks no doctrine or building.
Restrictions
- The engine never rejects Wisdom by a tree rule: having taken it before does not stop you from taking it. The only limit is points; if they are not enough, the purchase is rejected with "Not enough science points for this research".
- Wisdom is the player's node, not a city's: even if a city changes hands, the count of Wisdom purchases you have completed stays with you.
- The "Your science points are enough for a research" reminder in the "End turn" box counts Wisdom too (The turn cycle).
When to research it
Wisdom comes into play when your science points have nowhere else to go: when you have run out of nodes you can open in the tree, or when the remaining nodes are closed off by doctrine. While a node in the tree is still available, that node is usually worth more — it opens a lasting unit, building or effect for you, while Wisdom only yields gold. The general rules of research are on the Research and the tech tree page.
The numbers on this page are read from the game’s balance tables.
