The first tier of the imar branch, with no prerequisite — you can take it directly the moment your points allow.

What it unlocks

It unlocks Madrasa and Guild: one raises the science point gain, the other cheapens the rush rate. Since both come from the same node, researching ilim is the first step both toward carrying on with the rest of the branch and toward growing the science point gain.

When to research it

If you are heading into the imar branch, this is the first node — Commerce lists it as a prerequisite. Finishing ilim early and building the Madrasa makes it easier to keep up with later nodes' prices with your point gain (Research and the tech tree).
