Buildings
Inn
The Inn is the building of the Opportunist line dynasty and takes the place of the Market: when a seat of this dynasty goes to build a Market, the Inn enters the queue. It carries the Market's location share as it is; its fixed gold income is higher than the Market's.
Its effects
- Region income +3 Gold
- +1 Gold for each Caravan road / Water tile in the region (at most 2 tiles)
For comparison, the Market's effects (Market):
- Region income +1 Gold
- +1 Gold for each Caravan road / Water tile in the region (at most 2 tiles)
The difference is in the fixed gold income and in the cost: the Inn's cost is 7 (the Market's is 5). The location share, the part that comes from the Caravan road and Water tiles in the city's region, works by the same rule as the Market's share (at most 2 tiles count). What gold is for is explained on the Market page; the gold the Inn brings flows into the same purse.
What taking the Market's place means
- The choice is not yours, it is the dynasty's. Under the Opportunist line, when you put a Market in the queue, an Inn is what gets written to the queue; a Market cannot be built separately.
- Same slot. The Inn spends one slot; a city holds at most 3 buildings (The production queue).
- The technology lock comes from the Market. No node unlocks the Inn separately; without knowing the node that unlocks the Market, the Inn cannot be built either.
- A city cannot hold both. The Inn and the Market are two faces of the same building: while one stands in a city or sits in its queue, the other cannot be built.
- A building that comes with a conquest works on its own data. Another dynasty's Inn is kept in a city you capture as well, and keeps bringing in gold.
When to build it
The Market's criteria apply to the Inn too: a safe rear city away from the front, a city on the coast or on a caravan road. The gold income does not scale with population and is collected in the empire's purse; when the city falls, it takes the Inn and its location share with it.
